“Include a grid.” This is the one note of creative direction I received from Steve Mizek. As I thought about this, I realized I wanted to take a more organic approach to what a “grid” is, and in turn make a subtle reference to the early days of disco, when live drummers set the rhythm—which meant that the beat was never perfectly “on” (making disco from this era more difficult to beat match).

The design’s understructure uses a scanned halftone, providing a uniform but slightly offkilter pattern. Layered over this are blurred colors & shapes, in an attempt to reference the lights of the floor. Finally, the artwork wraps around from front-to-back, another nod to the continuous mixes DJs produce.
