When Love Lived
Remembering where we came from; knowing where we're going
Pulling deep from his intimate history & connection to San Francisco’s deep house scene, Brock Van Wey released When Love Lived in 2012 as a love letter to another era, celebrating the importance of the community which brought so many together, and the love & joy experienced on the dancefloor. This album is a tribute to those moments, and the artwork was an attempt to capture those feelings—when the people—the music—the lights—the pain—the joy—the mystery—when everything came together at just the right moment—and were captured in your memory forever.
Output
The album was released as a full album-length CD, and a DJ-friendly 2x12 LP, with the artwork tailored to each format. The former referencing the quieter atmosphere of the chillout room, and the latter darker & denser—alluding to the deeper & darker hours of a party.
In 2022/3, the orignal artwork for When Love Lived would take on a new life in the collected/final works of Earth House Hold, How Deep Is Your Devotion.
